Welcome to my new website!
I’m feeling really grateful! Grateful that you’ve landed here for a moment and grateful for this lovely new website! :)
I decided to change things up a little bit, try a new platform and get ready to start offering an online store where you can purchase my art. I almost can’t believe I’m finally at this point. When I first created a website almost 20 years ago, all of my art was just commission work. There wasn’t really anything I’d drawn or created that I could offer for sale beyond the original and I certainly didn’t have any prints available. A path to success didn’t seem obvious, but honestly, Lafayette has been a really great home filled with many avenues of inspiration and many warm and gracious hearts flowing with encouragement. So now, I’m really happy to say that within the last two years I’ve worked hard to create several collections of drawings and art pieces with prints available! Most of them are of buildings around Lafayette and Acadiana, but I also have a growing collection of bird drawings as well.
Something else that I’m really excited about is how I’ve been learning to use different media. When I was younger, before I’d attended SCAD or any art classes in undergrad, all of my drawings were either created in graphite or in charcoal. I didn’t venture much into the realm of color until I was in my mid-twenties and even then, it was rare, just an acrylic piece here or there or maybe a pastel drawing from time to time. Now, almost all of my art is filled with splashes of color. I can’t get enough of experimenting with different media, between colored pencils, soft pastels, liquid acrylic, acrylic paint, markers (both water-based and alcohol-based), liquid watercolor, India ink, watercolor pencils, and most recently, half-pan watercolors. They’re a lot of fun to play with!
So, for my first blog share, this is a drawing of St. Michael’s Church in Crowley that I was working on just a few days ago while sitting at Scratch (total yum!). I’ve been experimenting with the colors of the sky on each church drawing, and although subtle, I felt like this one came out really well! It might have been the encouragement of the Southern Pecan beer, but I’ll still assert that the more I work with this medium, the more I’m figuring out! And, it’s such a joy!
Well, that’s it for today! Thank you for visiting! I do plan on writing at least one blog post each week highlighting a recent piece or project I’m working on. Until then, enjoy the weekend and come back for a scroll soon! :-D
